Welcome to Budleigh Doodles!
Hi, we are Marie and Mark and we live in Essex with our large human and canine family! Marie is a registered nurse and Mark is a carpenter.
We started our official breeding programme (breeding Irish Setters) in 2014 when we became Assured Breeders with the Kennel Club, since then we have moved our focus to breeding our lovely Irish, Golden and (hopefully this year) Bernedoodle Doodle puppies.
We are have been awarded a 5 STAR Breeders License by Rochford District Council (RDC/2021/1239/ANWELF).
This means that our premises, facilities, paperwork, and dogs have been scrutinised thoroughly by both the council licensing officer from Rochford Council as well as their appointed veterinarian. On completion of their inspection we are delighted that we have been awarded the highest star rated licence possible.
Our priority has always been to breed for both temperament and health. All our adult dogs have undergone the relevant health tests for their breed and copies of these can be viewed by all prospective puppy owners.
Both Marie and Mark hold OFQUAL Level 3 approved Diplomas in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare, and this, with over 15 years of experience in breeding dogs (we started prior to 2014 breeding litters because we wanted to develop our own breeding lines) means we can assist new owners in all aspects relating to puppy purchase and their on-going care.
We are based approximately 20 minutes from both Southend and Chelmsford. At home, our dogs have 13 acres to run around on and also enjoy swimming in the lake. We have a secure puppy run which our puppies use once they are old enough to spend some supervised time outside.
As mentioned above, our priority when deciding on a breeding programme is the health and temperaments of both the Sire and Dam. All our dogs are health tested which include both genetic testing and BVA hip and elbow scores where indicated.
All our pedigree dogs are KC registered and have many champions in their pedigrees. The pedigree certificates along with health test certificates can be viewed during visits. We breed puppies who are both F1 and F1b generations. F1 puppies are puppies born to pedigree parents, (Irish Setter/Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain dog/Standard Poodle/Miniature Poodle). F1b puppies are puppies born from a mating between an F1 doodle (Irish/Golden or Bernedoodle) and a pedigree parent (miniature or standard KC registered poodle). We breed both miniature and standard sized dogs.
All our puppies are used to children of varying ages along with all the usual household noises you would expect in a bustling home. Our puppies can be viewed with mum from 5 weeks of age and we welcome all members of the family.
Puppies will leave us for their new homes at 8 weeks of age and we will notify you of the collection date when your puppy is born. We are also able to offer puppy training programmes for puppies from 8 weeks of age onwards. If you feel you may be interested in additional training for your puppy, please mention this as early as possible. Spaces are limited on this programme due to the one to one time that goes into the training.
When you collect your puppy, we will provide you with a contract of sale, puppy information pack, vaccination card, worming history, a vet health certificate, food, a toy, and a scent blanket. All our puppies will have received their first vaccination at 8 weeks of age and been micro-chipped by us and all details will be given to you in your pack. Puppies will have been bathed and had their nails clipped and will have been wormed at weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age (dates will be given to you on collection). They will be health checked by our vet and this report will be given to you to take to your vet. We advise all new owners to book a puppy check with their own vets within 7 days of collecting puppy from us.
We love to hear how all our puppies are getting on in their new homes and welcome regular contact. Please note that during busier times (when we have more than one litter here/during school holidays (children needing entertaining), replies may take a litter longer as caring for our puppies and adult dogs takes priority. Please be patient, we will always get back to you.
We are always here for advice for the lifetime of all our puppies and we take huge pride in the fact that we are still in contact with so many of our previous owners who take the time out of their busy days to send us lovely update messages and photos. We absolutely love seeing them all.
PUPPY/DOG OWNERSHIP – IS BRINGING A PUPPY HOME GOING TO BE EASY?
We know that most people that contact us have done their homework and have spent lots of time considering buying a puppy and introducing him/her into their family. Thankfully most new owners are very responsible and fully aware of the dedication, patience and commitment it takes to raising a happy healthy puppy, however, it is important to be aware that the first couple of months after puppies leave us will be a period of adjustment. Lots of patience, time and understanding will be required.
Puppy/dog ownership is not for the fainthearted! Puppies will nip, jump, bark, have ‘accidents’ in the house, demand attention when you are busy (basically have the potential to be a little bit annoying at times). They will require ongoing socialisation and training to help them to adjust to their new life away from mum and us. This all takes a huge amount of time and commitment and new owners should be prepared for this.
We put in a huge amount of work here into getting the basics right, and it is important to us that new owner’s are realistic and fully aware that raising a puppy is not easy and the initial few weeks can be challenging. There will be a period of adjustment (thankfully we know that most of you who contact us are responsible and fully prepared for this).
It is important that you have thought about your lifestyle and how a puppy will fit in (especially during this period of adjustment). Much as we would love to visit you all at home and get a feel for your lifestyle, this is not possible. We have puppies leave us for destinations such as Spain, Bermuda, Dubai, France (we wish it were possible!). So we have to put the onus on you that if you have contacted us for a puppy, you are confident that you are prepared for the initial hard work.
NOW FOR THE BEST BIT!
When you get passed this initial phase and you have provided your puppy with patience, time to adjust, ongoing training and socialisation, then you will be rewarded with the most wonderful companion you could ever have wished for, and your home and family will be so greatly enriched as a result of bringing puppy into your life.
Thank you for reading this far!
If you have considered all the above and feel that you have the patience, time, love and determination required to raise a happy healthy puppy and offer them a home for life, we would absolutely love to hear from you.
